Here’s what’s happening at the MHS Counseling and College Access Office.

            College App Week will be September 25 through September 29. Seniors will participate in several activities highlighting college admission and career planning including a Tailgate Party with a mini college fair, No Excuses Presentation by County Mayor Witherspoon, and prizes for applying to colleges.

            All seniors will get the opportunity to take or retake the ACT for free on October 17, 2017, through a state initiative. The test will be given to seniors only on October 17, during the school day. Registration by seniors is not necessary.

            Any junior or senior interested in taking the ASVAB (Armed Services Aptitude Battery) needs to sign up for the test with Ms. Scarbrough. The test will be given on Tuesday, November 7, at Milan High School.

            UTM is now superscoring ACT scores which means they will take the highest subscore from each test and compute a higher composite score.

            Seniors who still need to order their cap and gown packages can get order forms from Ms. Parkins and she will get them to Balfour. See her with any questions.

            Seniors, apply for the SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes. Go to www.suntrust.com/offtocollege to apply. Two $500 scholarship winners will be randomly chosen every two weeks October 30 through May 14, 2018.

            Tennessee Technological University invites interested students to Preview Day on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Please RSVP online at tntech.edu/previewday or call 931-372-3888.

            Southeast Missouri State University invites prospective students to Show Me Days on October 7, November 11, 13, February 17, 19, or April 7. Go to semo.edu/visit.

            Band seniors, remember to apply for the Division II State Band Scholarship. Deadline is October 1, but Mr. Scruggs encourages you to submit your application and DVD earlier. See Mr. Scruggs or Ms. Bryant for assistance.

            Any senior interested in Washington University, see Mrs. Parkins.

            Mississippi State University invites interested students to Fall Preview Day on October 9, October 23, or November 13. Go to visit@msstate.edu for more info.

            Juniors interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT in October, see Mrs. Scarbrough to register by September 15. Cost is $16 payable at test time on October 11.

            Wendy’s invites Senior Scholar Athletes to apply for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship. Go to WintheWendysHeisman.com to apply by the October 2nd deadline. The first 1000 applications get a free $10 Wendy’s gift card.

            Apply for the Stop Texting and Driving Scholarship at https://www.nashvilletnlaw.com/scholarship/. Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded after the April 2, 2018, deadline.

The 2018 Coca-Cola Scholars application is now open. The deadline to apply is 5 pm EST on Tuesday, October 31. For the application and to learn more about the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship, go to http://www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org/apply/. UT Chattanooga invites seniors to Moc in a Minute at the Jackson Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on November 2, 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. You can be admitted on the spot by bringing your application, and transcript. The application fee will be waived.
